Repeat Prescriptions

Patients on regular medication do not always need to see a doctor. If your doctor agrees, you may obtain a repeat prescription by telephoning (01652) 600302 and speaking to the Prescription Clerk. The prescription clerk is available Monday - Friday 08:00 – 17:00.

Outside these hours, there is an answer phone service to take repeat prescription requests. 72 hours' notice is needed to prepare repeat prescriptions. Prescriptions put through after 17:00 on a Friday and over the weekend will be ready for collection after 17:00 on the following Wednesday.

When requesting a repeat prescription please be ready to quote your name, address, PIN number (which can be found at the top on the right-hand side of your prescription) and the medication you require

Alternatively follow the link on the top of this page for the online request form – First time  users will need to carry out a simple one-off registration.

Sometimes you may be asked to come in and see the doctor for review of your repeat prescriptions.

Dispensary

We are a dispensing practice. If you live more than one mile from the surgery, you can get your prescriptions dispensed by us. We also have an onsite pharmacy for the use of all patients and visitors.

The prescription clerk is available Monday - Friday 08:00 – 17:00. Any queries being received outside of these hours will be forwarded to the prescription clerk for them to deal with the next working day unless the matter requires emergency attention that day.

Any queries regarding prescriptions already ordered and dispensed, owing or home deliveries, from the in-house Riverside Pharmacy, please contact (01652) 600301.

New Patients

Please note that you we will not be able to issue medications to you as a newly registered patient until after at least one week. This time frame is necessary to ensure that any medications you are being prescribed are recorded correctly onto your medical record and any queries can be administered by the surgery staff.

In the interim period you will be required to contact your previous surgery.

Third Party Consent

If you wish to give your permission for a representative to order medication on your behalf either in person or by telephone, Riverside Surgery will now require a signed consent form in order to comply with your request; this is to protect patient confidentiality.  Please call in for a form.

Prescription Fees

Help with NHS costs

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

  • those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
  • those who are age exempt
  • those with certain medical conditions

More information is available at NHS Choices

NHS Charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £9.65
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £111.60
  • 3-month PPC: £31.25

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

  • Telephone advice and order line 0845 850 0030
  • General Public - Buy or Renew a PPC On-line
