Riverside Surgery operates a mixed appointment system with same day and pre-bookable appointments up to three weeks in advance.

You can book an appointment in the following ways:-

1. Telephone the surgery or if convenient, ask at reception or via our online appointment system, please see information below about how to register. 
2. You may consult any of the doctors within the practice.
3. Please book a separate appointment for each person attending.
4. If you cannot keep your appointment, please let us know.
5. There are some healthcare problems that maybe dealt with more appropriately by other members of our healthcare team. This can save waiting time and be more convenient to patients.
6. You may be contacted by an urgent care practitioner who will ensure you are seen as quickly as necessary.

You may book nurse appointments up to a month in advance by telephone or in person.

Our practice nurses provide many specialist clinics for the promotion of good health and disease management.

Speaking to the Doctors

If you wish to speak to your doctor on the telephone it will normally be possible to do this by arrangement with the receptionist. It would be helpful in judging the urgency of the call and also ensuring the doctor has your notes and relevant information available if you could tell the receptionist the nature of your call when you ring. At other times we may be busy and we find that interruptions during surgery are upsetting both to ourselves and to patients we are seeing. For this reason we have asked receptionists not to disturb consultations with non-urgent telephone calls.

Online appointments (via the link at the top of this page) can be booked with the GP’s and Nurse Practitioner Julia Shipley only.  The online appointments are limited and can be booked up to 2 weeks in advance.

If you would like to use this service you will need to register. Once registered you will be allocated a unique user ID number to use with your chosen password, please keep this number and password safe.

Any queries relating to the online appointments or if you having difficulties in registering please contact the surgery.

If you are too ill to attend the surgery please try to telephone before 10:30 am to enable the doctor to plan his rounds.

Please attend the surgery whenever possible. The Urgent Care Practitioner handles all requests for home visits.

We have an Urgent Care Practitioner who deals with requests for home visits and emergencies, as well as offering advice on a variety of conditions. This service operates Monday to Friday 08:00 to 18:30.

Evening and weekend appointments now available

Patients who are registered at this practice can now book an appointment to see a range of clinicians including GPs and nurses on weekday evenings (after 18:30) or at the weekends (on Saturday and Sunday).

Appointments will either take place at this practice or at another NHS setting nearby. Talk to the practice receptionist to book an appointment. This is part of a national drive to help improve access to general practice and get the best possible outcomes for patients.

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.

Patients who do not attend: 

You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance. (excluding weekends and public holidays). You can also text to cancel your appointment.

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.
