Riverside Surgery is a research active practice; this means together we are contributing to the development of new treatments, interventions and medicines for our patients.

We only conduct research studies suitable for NHS patients which have gone through rigorous assessment of their governance and legal compliance and been examined by an independent ethical committee.

We work alongside other NHS partners including the North Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group and the Yorkshire & Humber Clinical Research Network, who are part of the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) to be able to provide you with these opportunities. The NIHR were set up by the Department of Health to grow NHS research to improve the health and wealth of the nation.

Riverside Surgery is involved in research studies which use anonymised data extracted from your records. If this is something which you would prefer to opt out of please inform a member of staff so that your records are not included.

There are a number of ways in which we may ask you to take part in research:

A doctor or nurse may talk to you about a particular study

You may be sent information through the post if we think you might be eligible to take part

You may read information about a current study in the waiting room

If you are approached your participation is voluntary and you can change your mind without needing to say why. You are under no obligation to take part and your care and your relationship with the doctor or nurse will not be affected. Before you agree to take part, you will be given information about what your involvement would be in the study to help you decide.
